We’ve had a report that the pump at the well needs a repair to the handle. We have a call in to the guys that do the repairs but the pump may not be working for this week and the weekend.

This coming weekend is Regatta weekend. Check out the regatta link on the left of this page to see the schedule of events.

The Loons on the Lake page needs an update. Does anybody have any current information?

For those who are wondering, no answer yet on the zoning question. (Four emails to Brenda Black, two to Mayor Walden plus a phone message left for Brenda Black, one email to Larry Braid and one to Jim Bowden.)
I guess that we shouldn’t expect an answer from B.Black any time soon: more troubles at the township..

As of September of 2009, everyone who operates a motorized pleasure craft must have and carry proof of competency (an “operator’s card“) on board at all times. This includes a personal watercraft (PWC). Boaters are reminded to carry their original card with them at all times (a copy may not be sufficient), as the $305 fine for failing to provide proof of competency is the same as if you did not have an operator’s card at all.
Proof of competency is not required for pleasure craft without motors.

It’s worth noting that while the authorities are checking for proof of competency they may also check for vessel registration documents. Copies of these are also supposed to be on board at all times.

New this year: Any and all plastic materials are to go in the recycle bin now. They will sort out the recycle/reuse stuff from the waste plastics at the other end.
Also, residents of the township can drop off large items at either the Baxter or Tower Road transfer stations. No charge for “household” large items. Proof of residence may be requested.
“Hazardous” waste can be dropped off at the transfer stations on specific days (only). Both “Hazardous” waste and electronics can be dropped off at the Baxter transfer site on the 14th of July, 2010 or on the 21st of August, 2010.

Due to the large number of building permits which continue to remain open beyond the time when construction should normally have been completed a Building Permit Maintenance Fee policy has been adopted by Council.
Where the chief building official determines that a Building Permit remains open after two years, whether construction is ongoing or not, the official will mail an invoice for a file maintenance fee, about $60.00. If unpaid the fee will be attached to the tax bill. This procedure will be applied every year after or until such time as the building permit is closed.

(We don’t usually post links to other sites, particularily entertainment sites but I am making an exception in this case. Jack)
The video that is at the end of this link shows a boat out of control. The thing to note is not what the guy was doing at the time that he lost control nor what he does afterward. The thing to note is how quickly that small craft comes around at him.
(That little lanyard attached to your motor’s killswitch is starting to look like a good idea just about now, eh?
    J.)

There was a small construction project going on at the Georgian Bay end of the Go Home River this summer. To read about it, click here..

The District now has the Muskoka Web Map on line. Use the search function, select “Go Home Lk” and you are right over your cottage.

Here they go again. Only this time they’re calling us names before they even make their proposal.
Orillia Power’s latest attack on Sandy Gray Falls..
Also note that our new Minister of Natural Resources, Linda Jeffrey, sits on the Board of Directors for Hydro One.
If you haven’t been up to see Sandy Gray Falls for a while you might want to do it soon.

The consultants for Swift River Energy Ltd. have had some ongoing contact with the Association in regards Bala waterpower proposal as has the group opposing the development. For additional info click here.
